Akron Zips Football

Annual Pro Day at Akron (March 19) - 24 representatives from 14 National Football League (NFL) teams, as well as one from the Arena Football League 2 (af2) and the Canadian Football League (CFL), assembled on the University of Akron's Stile Athletics Filed House to evaluate 2007 Zip seniors in preparation for the upcoming draft on April 26-27, 2008.

On hand were representatives from the world champion New York Giants, Super Bowl runner-up New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccanners, San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins. Also represented was the Mahoning Valley Thunder of the af2 and the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL.

Pro Day has been very productive for both the scouts and Zips with Akron having six players drafted over the last 11 years, including 2007 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award recipient Jason Taylor. Last year, offensive lineman Andy Alleman was third-round pick of the New Orleans Saints and drew a crowd of 15 NFL scouts. Also free agency has been good for former Zips such as Chase Blackburn of the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants.

Signing Day (February 6) - National Signing Day is the first day a high school senior can sign a binding national letter of intent for college football. Nearly every player offered a scholarship will sign on this day.
