Cleveland landed the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on the strength of a disc-jockey’s phrase.  Meanwhile, the local birthplace of the world’s greatest superhero has been left to decay.  Even as northcoast politicos debate how their own icon became the centerpiece of huge annual gatherings in Metropolis, Illinois (!), the Glenville-area home where Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created Superman sits crumbling—until now.  Author Brad Meltzer has launched a fundraising effort to restore and preserve the structure, and a Who’s Who of comic luminaries have contributed works to be auctioned online, beginning this week.  Click here to view the items, and watch the video below for an overview of the historic home and this grass roots project.  While 70 years have passed since the Man of Steel was conceived here in NE Ohio, he’s enjoyed a renaissance with this generation—through Clark Kent’s weekly CW adventures on Smallville.
