Three key figures from the Smallville universe are coming to Superman’s birthplace next month. Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor), Sam Witwer (Doomsday) and Helen Slater (Clark Kent’s Kryptonian mother, Lara; also Supergirl on the big-screen) will headline the Screaming Tiki Cleveland SuperCon, a Superman-themed comic book convention being held as part of the annual Ingenuity Festival, July 10-12. Fans, collectors and memorabilia dealers will gather inside the Halle Building near the theatre district on Euclid Avenue. (The historic skyscraper is featured in the opening of The Drew Carey Show.) The weekend will also pay tribute to the late Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the two local teens who created the Man of Steel here 75 years ago. Their families, including Siegel’s widow, will make a rare appearance at the event. The original Siegel home in Glenville had fallen into disrepair until a fund-raising effort last year netted $100,000 for restoration. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for July 11, prior to a panel discussion with family members. This will be the first major comic-convention in Cleveland since 1991, the Plain Dealer reports. Tickets are $20 for single-day admission to both SuperCon and Ingenuity, or $30 for the entire weekend. Check back soon for the CW actors’ appearance schedule.
