Monday, May 18th, 2009
Okay, so whose brand of justice do you prefer, Judge Marilyn Milian or Judge Penny Brown Reynolds? Their two WBNX courtroom shows will battle head-to-head for Outstanding Legal Drama at the 36th annual Daytime Emmy Awards—to be shown live, Sunday, August 30 on The CW. This is the second consecutive nomination for The People’s Court and the first for Family Court with Judge Penny. The Martha Stewart Show also garnered four nods: Outstanding Lifestyle Program, Decoration in a Culinary Series, Set Design and Technical Direction; while The Tyra Banks Show will vie for five statuettes: Outstanding Informative Talk Show, Hairstyling, Makeup, Lighting Direction, and Multi-Camera Editing. CW animated dramas Legion of Super Heroes, Ben 10: Alien Force, and The Batman were nominated in categories for Sound Editing & Mixing. Congrats to the four daytime stars for this well-deserved recognition. And, incidentally, Judge Milian offers some helpful legal advice on 21 common topics. MediaWeek columnist Marc Berman recently viewed an episode of Family Court With Judge Penny, which debuts three weeks from today on WBNX. Here are his thoughts: “Presided over by Judge Penny Brown Reynolds, who began life as an impoverished child raised by a single mother, what immediately set this court show apart was the relationship aspect of the case. Instead of wondering whether or not the 18-year-old son of a troubled mother would win the $1,000 he was suing her for, the relationship between the two took center stage under the guidance of a completely relatable Judge Penny. With so much court (on) the airwaves, you have to bring something unique to the table. And what gives Family Court With Judge Penny an edge is the focus on themes of a more family and relationship oriented nature.” For those who enjoy real-life drama and legal wrangling, WBNX will have a stellar courtroom lineup, weekdays beginning next month:
