Since Emily Bett Rickards was a little girl she has been an avid people watcher and dress up fanatic. It was no surprise to her friends and family that her future would lie in acting. Growing up on the beautiful West Coast of Canada, a life in Hollywood seemed like a long shot, but after Rickards introduced herself to musical theatre, it was confirmed that acting was her calling.
While in high school, Rickards passion to start acting on a more expansive scale motivated her to graduate high school early and attend the Vancouver Film School Acting Essentials Program whose alumni include directors Neil Bomkamp, Neil Kopp and Kevin Smith. Soon after graduating from VFS, Rickards would land her first feature role in the third installment of the very successful Flicka franchise, Flicka: Country Pride. That same year Emily would book the recurring role of Fourty in the Canadian series Soldiers of the Apocalypse, the controversial movie of the week, Romeo Killer: The Chris Porco Story for the Lifetime Network and a small supporting role in the independent comedy, Random Acts of Romance.
In 2012, Emily landed the recurring role of Felicity Smoak in the hit CW series, Arrow. After appearing in seventeen episodes during the first season, Emily became a fan favorite and was upped to series regular. Her character can also be seen in crossover episodes of The CW’s series The Flash.
Rickards can also be seen in the upcoming historical romantic drama Brooklyn where she will star alongside Saoirse Ronan and Emory Cohen. The film premiered at The Sundance Film Festival in 2015 where it was very well received and went on to play at the 2015 Toronto Film Festival. Fox Searchlight will release the film wide in November 2015.
When Rickards isn’t on set, she divides her time between yoga, spin class, and her love of photography. She also enjoys hanging out with her dog and playing board games, drawing on her chalk wall, or checking out thrift shops to help round-out her closet. Always wanting to stay sharp and keep her creative juices flowing she is constantly reading books, scripts, plays, and stories to assist with her arsenal of undercover personas to access when need be.
Rickards currently resides in Vancouver, Canada.
